Equine Strangles Reported in Three States

Horses in Florida and Ohio were confirmed positive for equine strangles in January 2022, and a horse in Florida was confirmed positive in late December 2021.

A horse was confirmed with strangles in Palm Beach County, Florida, in January 2022. That was the fifth premises in Florida to report a strangles case in 2022. Google Maps

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported equine strangles in Michigan, Florida and Ohio.

Florida Strangles

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reported two confirmed cases of equine strangles and one exposed horse on a private facility in Palm Beach County. 

This is the fifth confirmed Florida premises with strangles in 2022. 

Ohio Equine Strangles

The Ohio Department of Agriculture confirmed one case of equine strangles, two suspected cases and 10 horses exposed to strangles at a private facility in Logan County. 

Michigan Equine Strangles 2021

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed one case of equine strangles and two suspected cases in Kent County, Michigan, in late December 2021. The confirmed case was in a 7-year-old Miniature Horse mare that had onset of clinical signs on December 27 that included nasal discharge and ruptured abscess. She was confirmed for equine strangles on December 30, 2021.
