Florida Additional EEE Case Plus Strangles Quarantine

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reported that a yearling Standardbred mare has been euthanized due to Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in Gilchrist County. 

The filly had onset of clinical signs on July 4 that included rapid progression of neurologic signs. She was confirmed positive on July 11. 

This filly was the ninth confirmed cast of EEE in Florida this year.

Florida Strangles Quarantine

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reported that a horse at a boarding facility in Broward County had tested positive for strangles. The premise has been placed under official quarantine. Only the animals under quarantine have additional travel restrictions. 

There are 11 exposed horses on the premises.

This is the 22nd strangles case reported in Florida this year.
