Oregon Mare Confirmed with Strangles

A mare in Clackamas County, Oregon was confirmed with equine strangles and five horses were exposed.

An attending veterinarian reported a confirmed case of equine strangles in Clackamas County, Oregon, according to the Equine Disease Communication Center.

The 5-year-old Paint mare had onset of clinical sign son November 9 that included nasal discharge. She was confirmed with strangles on November 10 and is recovering. 

Five other horses at the facility were exposed but are not showing clinical signs at the time of this report. The facility is under a voluntary quarantine.
