This past fall, thousands around the world answered the call to help stop the alarming rate of veterinary suicide by raising more than $140,000 through the Not One More Vet (NOMV) Race Around the World. Zoetis partnered with NOMV as the premier sponsor of the Race Around the World initiative to help raise awareness about mental health and crisis intervention in the veterinary community.

A total of 1,165 participants from across the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, South Africa and elsewhere—13 countries in all—gathered donations for walking or running on their own time. Participants tracked those miles with fitness devices and logged them for NOMV on an event website. The Race Around the World initiative exceeded its goal of 150,000 miles covered, tallying 169,794 participant miles from September 1 to November 10, 2020. That’s enough miles to circle Earth more than six and a half times!

“The NOMV Race Around the World raised significant funds to support our mission,” said Carrie Jurney, DVM, NOMV president, of the more than $140,000 raised from 2,588 race participants and their donors. “Zoetis played a key role in our overwhelming success. As the premier sponsor, Zoetis championed this initiative, our mission and our 30,000 members. We are so grateful for everything they have done to support wellness in the veterinary community.”

The money raised during the NOMV Race Around the World will be used to help transform the status of mental wellness within the profession, so veterinary professionals can thrive through education, resources and support.

“Zoetis is committed to helping veterinarians care for their own well-being so they can flourish personally and professionally,” said Jeannie Jeffery, vice president of the U.S. equine business at Zoetis. “We are humbled by the success of this NOMV Race Around the World. Veterinary professionals are the selfless backbone of our animals’ health, and we are honored to support an organization that advocates veterinarians taking care of themselves every day by providing support to help them overcome challenges and promotes mental wellness.”

Multiple NOMV programs will receive support from Race Around the World donations, including: support grants to assist veterinary professionals in crisis, educational programming to promote wellness in the veterinary community, and strengthening and expansion of peer-to-peer support networks.
