UK Vets Can Be Called Doctors

According to information from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), registered veterinarians can use the courtesy title “Doctor” if they wish. RCVS sought input on the title from those in theprofession and from the public.

The overwhelming response was to allow the use of the title at home and abroad.

An article on the RVC website noted, “Of the three main clinical degrees in the UK–medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine–only veterinary surgeons did not use Doctor as a courtesy title. The announcement will also align the UK with international standards, as most overseas veterinary surgeons already use the title as common practice.”
