New Veterinary Diagnostic Lab for University of New Hampshire

The University of New Hampshire will build a new veterinary diagnostic laboratory, according to an article on fosters.com. The new diagnostic lab will be built in a different location from the current facility, which was constructed in 1970.

According to the university, the New Hampshire Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NHVDL) assists the NH Commissioner of Agriculture and State Veterinarian in their efforts to monitor and control important animal diseases.

The laboratory contribute to the academic, research and outreach missions of the University of New Hampshire College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. Veterinarians from around New Hampshire and the New England region use their histopathology, microbiology, serology and necropsy services for the diagnosis of animal diseases from pets, farm animals, wildlife, research, aquatic and zoo animals.

The NHVDL also provides diagnostic services and information to various state agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services, NH Fish and Game Department, and state and local law enforcement agencies.

The lab also participates in the increased surveillance by state and federal agencies of certain animal diseases associated with international trade and bioterrorism.
