VetPD to Host 2 Destination CE Events for Equine Practitioners in 2024 & Early 2025 

Cutting-edge lectures pair with bucket list experiences during the all-inclusive South African Safari Event and the Austrian Ski Event.

VetPD is offering multiple opportunities for equine veterinarians to fulfill their continuing education requirements while traveling to exciting destinations in 2024 and 2025. The professional development provider is hosting an all-inclusive South African safari trip in 2024 and a ski trip in the Austrian Alps in 2025. During these trips, equine veterinarians can attend lectures, case discussions, and wet labs between adventures on the game reserve or the alpine slopes.  

South African Safari Event 

VetPD is hosting a trip to the Mongena Game Lodge in Dinokeng Game Reserve, near Johannesburg, South Africa, from Nov. 17-23, 2024.  

The event includes a total of 25 hours of safaris, 30-plus hours of lectures and case discussions, and 30-plus hours of practical sessions and wet labs on live horses and specimens. The sessions will be aimed at experienced general and advanced practitioners, and they will feature internationally renowned speakers.  

Speakers at the event will include:  

  • Dr. Nathan Slovis, DVM, DACVIM, CHT (Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, USA) 
  • Dr. Cooper Williams, VMD, DACVSMR (Equine Sports Medicine of Maryland, USA)  
  • Dr. Andrew Harrison, BVSc, CertEP, CertVA, MRCVS (Three Counties Equine Hospital, UK) 
  • Dr. Lee Clark (Consultant, UK) 
  • Dr. Vicky Savage BVSc, MSc, CertAVP, DECEIM, MRCVS (Three Counties Equine Hospital, UK) 

Lecture and case discussion topics will include:

  • Sports Medicine & Orthopedics 
  • Pre-Purchase Examination 
  • General Equine Practice 
  • General & Field Anesthesia 
  • Pain Management 
  • Emergency & Critical Care 
  • Internal Medicine 
  • Orthopedics & Lameness Diagnostics 
  • Musculoskeletal Ultrasound 
  • Radiography & Radiology 

The Dinokeng Game Reserve is an 18,500-hectare (45,714-acre) property where lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinoceros roam free. The reserve is malaria-free and a convenient one-hour drive from Johannesburg International Airport. Guests will stay at Little Mongena, Chameleon Bush Lodge, or Siyaya Game Lodge, all of which are a short, scenic drive from the lectures at Mongena Game Lodge.  

From Monday through Thursday, there will be four to five hours of sunrise and sunset safaris, with sessions held between 10:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. There will be no sessions on Friday, allowing attendees to relax or participate in a day trip.

Austrian Alps Equine Ski Event 

From Jan. 18-23, 2025, VetPD will host an exciting Ski Event at the Spa Hotel Seiblishof, Ischgl, near Innsbruck, in the Austrian Alps. The event will feature 24-plus hours of skiing and 20 hours of lectures and case discussions.  

From Sunday through Wednesday, attendees can ski for six to seven hours per day and attend lectures between 7-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. Each day, veterinarians can choose from two streams of illustrated lectures covering topics such as sport horse orthopedics, surgery, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, ophthalmology and more. Featured speakers will include Dr. Lauren Schnabel, DACVS, DACVSMR (USA); Dr. Kurt Selberg, DACVR (USA); Dr. Bettina Dunkel, DACVIM, DECEIM, DACVECC (UK); and Dr. Silvia Stadler, Dr.med.vet, DACVO (Austria)

There will be no lectures or sessions on Thursday, allowing attendees to spend the entire day on the alpine slopes.  

Ischgl is one of Austria’s premier ski resorts and features an extensive network of well-groomed slopes that appeal to both experienced and casual skiers. Attendees can look forward to a gorgeous village atmosphere, après-ski delights, and leisurely evenings connecting with colleagues.
