West Nile Virus in Idaho Mare

A 2-year-old mare was confirmed with West Nile virus in Canyon County, Idaho.

A 2-year-old Quarter Horse mare was confirmed with West Nile virus (WNV) in Canyon County on August 9 by the Idaho State Animal Health Lab. She had onset of clinical signs on August 6 that included ataxia, depression, muscle fasciculations and fever.

The affected mare was vaccinated for West Nile virus in the spring of 2019 with an unknown prior vaccination history. She is alive and undergoing treatment.
