Utah’s Second 2017 Equine WNV Case Recovering

Utah has reported its second case of equine West Nile virus (WNV) for 2017.

Utah has reported its second case of equine West Nile virus (WNV) for 2017. On August 17, the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food confirmed that an unvaccinated 9-year-old Quarter Horse mare from Carbon County was positive for WNV. The mare began showing clinical signs on August 14, when she was ataxic with muscle fasciculations and facial twitching. Since that time the mare has responded to treatment and is expected to recover. 

The first 2017 WNV case in Utah also was in Carbon County.
