Bio for Nathan M. Slovis, DVM, DACVIM, CHT

Slovis is the director of the McGee Center at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. He is a native of Annapolis, Maryland. Slovis received his Bachelor of Science from Radford University, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University, interned at Arizona Equine Center and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. Slovis has published more than 30 manuscripts in both national and international peer-reviewed veterinary journals. He is the editor of the Atlas of Equine Endoscopy and The Atlas of Diseases/Disorders of the Foal both distributed by Elsevier. He implemented the current Infectious Disease and Equine Emergency Response Programs at Hagyard and holds the position of Infectious Disease Officer and Equine Emergency Response Director. He is also a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist and a member of the Veterinary Infectious Disease Society. You can reach Slovis at nslovis@hagyard.com. Bio for Christian M. Leutenegger, Dr. Vet. Med., PhD, FVH

Leutenegger is the worldwide Head of PCR for IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. He graduated from University of Zurich, Switzerland, in 1992 as a veterinarian, earned his doctor in veterinary medicine in 1995, finished a PhD degree in molecular immunology and virology in 1998, and completed a specialty title for laboratory medicine in 2001. Leutenegger founded and directed the Molecular & Diagnostic Core Facility at the University of California, Davis, from 2000 to 2006. He joined IDEXX Laboratories in 2006 to build a standardized molecular diagnostics platform for the IDEXX reference laboratories. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters primarily in the field of human and veterinary molecular diagnostics.
