Equine Strangles Confirmed in Washington Gelding

A gelding purchased at auction developed strangles on a property in King County, Washington.

The attending veterinarian for a property in King County, Washington, confirmed a case of equine strangles on February 20. The 10-year-old Paint gelding had onset of clinical signs on February 15 that included fever, nasal discharge and swollen submandibular lymph nodes. The gelding is alive.

Ten other horses have been exposed.

The gelding originated from a sales auction and was transported to a private boarding facility about two weeks prior to showing clinical signs of strangles.
