The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services confirmed strangles in Suwannee and Lake Counties. On January 5, 2018, one premise in Suwannee County was placed under quarantine for clinical signs of strangles. The clinical horse arrived on the premise on December 201, 2017, from Burkburnett, Texas, and became clinical 10 days later.
This is the first case of strangles in Suwannee County and for the state of Florida in 2018.
On January 10, 2018, one premise in Lake County, Florida, was placed under quarantine when two of the 12 horses on the property demonstrated clinical signs consistent with strangles. This is the first case of strangles for Lake County and the second for the state of Florida in 2018.
