On April 4, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture confirmed a positive case of equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) abortion in Bannock County. The 13-year-old Quarter Horse mare aborted her pregnancy on March 26. She was up-to-date on her vaccinations, having received her fifth-month and seventh-month boosters.
The mare is at a private equine training facility in Bannock County. The mare had done no significant traveling in the last six months, but she had been in direct contact with two other horses at her home facility. No respiratory or neurological symptoms have been observed in any of the three horses.
There is no evidence to suggest this case is associated to the EHV-1 positive horse diagnosed on March 28 week in Ada County, Idaho.
